I had a pleasant surprise this week when my childhood friend Gretchen

informed me that my first roommate away from home at SUNY Purchase, Jack

Jastrebski, had recently moved to Awate-ken in the north of Japan to teach

English. I got in touch and Jack came through this week for a visit. It was

great to catch up and shoot the breeze.

Jack is a really smart, funny guy whose is deadly with the ladies. He's also

while I am supremely lazy about blogging, our houseguest Jeremy, is not. He's the chap with the stick through his nose a few posts ago. You can check his vacation blog here: http://jerminjapan.blogspot.com/, which is really nice, despite his repreated declarations that he hates blogs. He's armed with a really nice camera, some vacation time on his hands (a month!), already a few shots of me picking corn out of my teeth, and the ability to show you what our lives are like over here, sans boring work, but he might just show you that, too, as he is of a similar bent.
