big trouble in little tuscany
These kind of letterfoms with bifurcated ends are known as Tuscan letters.
night lizard
Shot from the inside of machida haus- a lizard as seen through glass. Pudgy was meeping at it the whole time, ready to eat it. Pudgy loves to eat lizards.
Your lettuce was grown by Yamada-san.
MosBurger, one of the larger burger chains in Japan, have chalkboards in a lot of their stores listing who grew the lettuce for your burger, as well as all the other produce. Really awesome to know who grew your food.

over Machida
It was actually a totally epic double rainbow. Like 5 people pointed it out to me on the walk home from the market.
what you dont get.
Today Selena, Nobuko, and I went to "Cake City"- the neighborhood of Jiyugaoka. It was great. We went to a small dessert theme park called Sweets Forest and wandered around looking for the best cake shop to snack in. The entire time we were riding there on the train, as well as walking around, I was emailing Selena's sister Cassandra on my phone, telling her that she wasn't going to get any cake outta us because she decided to stay home. We did begrudgingly get her some cake. Barely. This is Nobuko having a melon shu cream. Yum!.

About the cuties
I really like Japanese identity design. Most of the little cute guys that I have been posting are part of comprehensive identity positioning systems of certain companies here. I wish American companies would do this type of this instead of consistently resorting to bland "timeless" logos. I weird half-badger/half-hotdog is way more interesting. And cute.
best painting ever.
A great painting by my old roomie E*Rock. He has a really great, crazy art blog here: http://www.urbanhonking.com/lightandsound/
artistic excellence by mom
A really great painting hanging in the Prescott Lynam residence at present.

this is kind of hard to see due to the reflection, but it is a really neat piece of art hanging in colleen's cafe in portland, oregon. it is weathered, aged paper, ink, and paper sewn together, then sandwiched in glass.
